The Blu-ray burner is in a 2008 Mac Pro, so the files need to be exported from the New. FCPX has been capable of making BluRays for years.

Nigel Cooper 'Is there any sign of being able to author a BluRay DVD on Apple yet?' Yep, we're already doing it. Here's the burner: For software we're using a combination of Compressor to create the MPEG-2 files, Adobe Encore to Author the Disc and Roxio Toast 8 to actually burn the discs. At this time, Encore cannot burn the discs at all, it simply crashes. Also, encodes via Encore look terrible, but via Compressor they look fantastic. Our first project was a 720/59.94 HD project and it looked basically identical to the HD timeline when played back. Flat out gorgeous.

Took us 8 discs before we finally burned a good one, but now we've got it working. Walter Biscardi, Jr. HD Editorial & Animation for Broadcast and independent productions. All Things Apple Podcast! Read my blog!

  • I'm sorry but my copy of FCP X has export to DVD and export to Blu Ray built right in (I think they might be disguised in a touchy feely 'sharing' menu.) Rod I'm 99.9% sure Apple machines (besides the 'Air') will start shipping without CD/DVD drives sooner rather than later.
  • Is anyone (successfully) editing TM700 60p clips in Final Cut Pro and authoring to blu-ray? If so, are you using clipwrap to bring the files into FCP? Home Theater Discussions And Reviews > Other Areas of Interest > Camcorders > Editing TM700 60p in Final Cut Pro/authoring to blu-ray. I am using the same Mac Pro but with 8gb.

Andre Welkin 'just a quick question, i read that dvsp pro doesnt do blu-ray authoring and final cut 6.03 also doesnt. So does this mean that we have to buy new systems in order to auhtor and edit blu-ray' There are many more recent threads on this forum about BluRay authoring on the Mac. Yes you an do this on the Mac with a BluRay burner and Toast 9 or Adobe Encore. I would stay away from Encore, but again, do a Search on this forum for BluRay and you will find lots of more recent information about BluRay or read my blog.

Jwnulife - If you're not willing to do research yourself (and it appears that you are not), you're not going to get very far. People like you who are too lazy to look stuff up don't make friends here. Good luck with the Mac. You will find that on Mac there are (IF you are lucky and it's a very big 'if') usually 2 or 3 programs to do anything, at best, and if they don't work for you, you are out of luck. I hate Windows, but it's what I use for video and audio work because that's where the tools are.

If tool X doesn't work for you in Windows, than maybe tool Y, tool Z, tool A, tool B, tool C, and so on will work for you. You will have few choices on the Mac and some of the things that are very easy for us to do on Windows are not so easy on Macs. By the way, a Mac specific video forum on another web site might be more helpful to you. Most of us here don't use Macs (I have one at work and I don't use it for video and audio work because the Mac tools mostly suck in my opinion) and the few who do usually admit 'I use Windows for all my video work' or something similar. If you want or need a lot of hand holding, well, good luck with that because typically non-Windows users like to say 'read the manual' a lot. Boy, and I thought it was supposed to be the Mac guys who were the elitist snobs. I think jman98 is doing a good job of reversing that stereotype (not to mention giving the other gentlemen in here a bad name).

I don't want to this to regress into a juvenile bitchfest between Mac and PC users, so it would be nice if jman98 would consider taking his adolescent vitriol elsewhere. It's awfully presumptuous to assume that I'm trying to hitch a free ride just for asking a couple of questions.

I even tried to be discreet and post in the 'newbie' forum so I wouldn't step on jman98's toes but it looks like he's already got his panties in a bind. Is it his full time job to assault newbies in this forum and harass them? Can we get on to other important topics please?
